Colosseum: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Colosseum website?
No. Colosseum Visit is an independent visitor guide. The official site belongs to the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, which is part of the Ministry of Culture. We do not run the Colosseum. Official tickets are sold on ticketing.colosseo.it, and the tickets and tours featured here are sold by our partner Tiqets, a third party.
How much is a ticket to the Colosseum?
The official 24-hour ticket for the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill costs 18 €. The Full Experience tickets are 24 € for the arena, the underground or the attic, and 32 € for the Commodus Passage. EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay 2 € and under-18s enter free. We could not check booking fees.
Is the ticket named?
Yes, every type of ticket. Each visitor enters their details, and at the entrance you must show the ticket with an original ID document. The name can be changed only once, up to 24:00 on the seventh day before the visit, and only for a clear typing error or other cases listed in the Regulations. If the names do not match, entry is refused with no refund.
What happens if I arrive late?
With the 24-hour ticket and the Full Experience Arena, you can enter up to 15 minutes after your time. With Underground & Arena, Only Arena and the Attic there is no tolerance for lateness. If you miss your slot, the ticket is no longer valid for the Colosseum, only for one entry to the Forum and Palatine, with no refund. The Park suggests arriving 15 minutes early.
Is there a fast lane?
Tickets are named and have a time slot for everyone, and the security check with metal detectors is at the entrance for all visitors. We found nothing on the official site about a separate lane for booked tickets, so we do not promise one.
Do children pay?
Under-18s have a free ticket, but all free tickets must be booked online. Children under 12 are admitted only with an adult who has a valid ticket, and, according to the Park, they must be watched at all times and held by the hand.
How does the 2 € reduced ticket work?
It is for citizens of the European Union from the age of 18 up to the day of their 25th birthday, with an ID document. The price is 2 € for the 24-hour ticket and for the Full Experience tickets.
Is it free on the first Sunday of the month?
Yes, as well as on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November. You cannot book: tickets are collected on the day at the ticket offices, in order of arrival. The arena, the underground, the upper levels and the SUPER sites are not included, and the Forum Pass SUPER cannot be used on the free first Sunday.
How do I visit the underground?
With the Full Experience Underground & Arena ticket, 24 € (32 € with the educational route), valid 2 days, or on a guided visit by an accredited operator. Groups of up to 25 people enter every 15 minutes, access depends on availability, and you must arrive 30 minutes early with no tolerance. Sales open 30 days ahead.
Are tickets from operators such as Tiqets valid?
The Park lets agencies and operators sell tickets with their own services if they are on its official list, and Tiqets International B.V. appears in the list of September 2026. The list does not say which products are valid. The visitor rules add that if you buy through an agency that is not accredited, the Park may refuse entry, although you can then buy a new ticket at its ticket offices. Our Tiqets products always bundle a service, such as an audio guide or a guide, and are non-refundable, according to Tiqets.
Can I visit the Roman Forum and the Palatine on the same day?
Yes. With the 24-hour ticket you can enter the Forum and Palatine area on the same day or within 24 hours before or after your Colosseum time. With a Full Experience ticket, on the same day, the day before or the day after. The Colosseum has a time slot and the Forum and Palatine do not.
What can I not bring in?
Bags over 30 × 40 × 15 cm, suitcases, trolleys, glass bottles, trekking poles, selfie sticks, tripods, drones, viewing devices of any kind (VR headsets included) and umbrellas over 1 m wide. There is no cloakroom. Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is forbidden.
